The In Between

Hey friends! Welcome to my blog :-)

After 4 years and 9 months in Portland, my adventure here is coming to an end in just 5 1/2 weeks. Ultimately, my goal is to wind up somewhere on the east coast - but first, I'm taking a bit of a break from work and setting out to explore some new parts of the world!

A few people asked that I start a blog so that they could travel along with me - so here it is. I will do my best to update it as I go, but Facebook and Instagram will probably have more real-time updates if you follow me there.

I'm taking a huge leap here - leaving behind a job, friends and a city that I love to spend several months traveling, mostly alone, before looking for a job and settling down somewhere new. It's terrifying and exhilarating and occasionally I wonder if I'm totally nuts for wanting to do this. But as scary as it is, there's no doubt in my mind that this is what I'm meant to do - I've dreamed of long-term travel for years. I've obsessed over travel blogs, filled up Pinterest boards, planned trips I've never taken. This is my chance to finally make it a reality.

"You don't choose the day you enter the world and you don't choose the day you leave. It's what you do in between that makes all the difference." -Anita Septimus

This is the quote that inspired the name of the blog. It reminds me that while we are not in control of the number of days we have to live, we do have some control over the content of those days. While I'm healthy and able, I'm going to take advantage of every moment because you never know when that could change. Please do not mistake this for "YOLO" - that's just an excuse to do things you know are dumb while ignoring future consequences. Rather, it's living to the fullest - finding joy in the day-to-day, but also taking big chances in order to do the things that are really important to you. Travel is vital to my being - it challenges me, it renews me, it makes me rethink who I am and what my role is in the world.

So, I'm taking a leap into the In Between. I can't wait to see what happens!

  1. I would not have been pleased with this intro had you not dissed a pop culture reference of today's youth. #yolo
